George Washington's foreign policy advice remains sound.

(Washington Times ad for 6/17/006)

AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY REPORT CARD
1898 TO 2006

FINAL GRADE--F

Cuba still lives under tyranny.
Countless millions killed and still the world is Not Safe for Democracy.
America is perpetually at war with no realistic hope for definitive victory.
The defense budget is a bottomless financial pit.

FINAL GRADE: F

THE NATIONAL SHRINK™ ASKS?

1. DO WE HAVE ANY NATURAL ENEMIES?

2. DOES GLOBAL DEPLOYMENT OF OUR FORCES MAKE IT TOO EASY FOR AMERICA TO BE MANIPULATED BY K STREET ENGINEERED YELLOW JOURNALISM TO GO WAR?

3. DO COLD WAR ERA MUTUAL DEFENSE PACTS STILL MAKE SENSE?

4. DO INTERNATIONAL LAWS OF WAR TREATIES DESIGNED FOR CONFLICTS BETWEEN NATION STATES STILL MAKE SENSE ON THE 21ST CENTURY ASYMMETRIC BATTLEFIELD?

5. IS IT RATIONAL NOT TO HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO VERY AGGRESSIVELY INTERROGATE TERRORISTS WITH KNOWLEDGE OF A PLOT TO DESTROY AN AMERICAN CITY WITH A WMD?

6. WHY DOESN’T AMERICA QUICKLY ABROGATE, OR RENGOTIATE, TRADE TREATIES RESULTING IN CHRONIC SEVERE TRADE IMBALANCES?

7. WHY BAIL OUT FOREIGN DEBTORS WHEN MOST AMERICANS ARE DROWNING IN PERSONAL DEBT LARGELY THE RESULT OF THE SEVERE DEPRECIATION OF THE DOLLAR CAUSED BY UNCONTROLLED TRADE IMBALANCES?
