Dating services ads reflect the times

Dating service advertisements usually show the man looking adoringly at the woman but never the other way around. Makes sense in a culture in which men are relentlessly criticized and women have little interest in homemaking and childraising.

Playing the fool again.

Once again war drums from Washington and Jerusalem.

Haaretz Service today:

Olmert: Ahmadinejad is 'psychopath' who 'speaks like Hitler'

Let`s not play the fool again.
Mark Klein, M.D.

Unless Iran intends to commit national suicide in the its zeal to try to destroy Israel, its nuclear weapons are unusable. A small number of low yield weapons are no match for the potential size and scope of American and Israeli nuclear retaliatory capacities.

The inherent risk of relentless saber rattling against Iran is triggering a suicidal preemptive missile strike against Israel, American bases in the ME, and Western Europe.

Ahmadinejad isn`t a `psychopath`. He`s an inexperienced national leader with a restive population beset with severe economic problems. ME leaders use Jew-baiting to keep the lid on and buy time.

He is like Hitler in that once backed into a corner, only heaven knows what he`s capable of. Relentless anti-Nazi propaganda and economic boycotts in the early 1930s so poisoned an already bad situation the Nazis felt they had nothing left to lose by destroying the German Jewish community followed by going to war.

Too soon old too late smart

Q: It has become a cliché to say that powerful women scare off husbands and lovers. Do you think it is true?

A: I don't think I ever would have been secretary of state if I had stayed married. But I loved being married. I was married for 23 years. I was very sorry when it ended.

Q: Will you marry again?

A: I doubt it.

Q: Why not?

A: Why?

Q: Companionship?

A: I have lots of companionship. I am about to be 69 years old, and I have three daughters, three sons-in-law and six grandchildren. I am not looking to meet men. I also truly can't imagine who is out there who might be interested in someone like me. I'm intimidating, don't you think?

Globalization is poison for ordinary people

AP story today: "Beijing's mayor has called for a speeding up of the demolition of impoverished neighborhoods in China's capital as part of preparations for the 2008 Olympics, the state-run Beijing Daily reported Saturday. On a tour of one area in the process of being razed Friday, Mayor Wang Qishan told officials and construction workers that demolishing the dilapidated neighborhoods is an essential task this year and that the work must be accelerated, the newspaper said...."This work is full of significance in strengthening the environment, building a livable city and realizing the strategic plan of a 'New Beijing, Great Olympics,' the newspaper quoted Wang as saying.

Translation: Enriching property speculators at the expense of the working poor.

The Chinese are planting the seeds for a very violent nationwide uncoordinated civil insurrection. Would just take a single out of control incident resulting in the death of protestors to set it off. No way the authorities would ever get that genie back in the bottle.

A minor traffic accident involving an Israeli army vehicle in the occupied territories about 30 years ago triggered the Palestinian Intifada. Been downhill ever since. The Intifada started with stone throwing and ended with Hamas coming to power at the ballot box.

The corporate management looting season is upon us

Annual meeting season is upon us. Buried in glossy annual reports attempting to turn corporate earning pig's ears into silk purses are the astounding salaries and bonuses for top management.

GE is a perfect example. The bosses handsomely reward themselves while the stock price has gone nowhere for 5 years. In buying power terms the shares took a very big hit. What do the shareholders get? A few pennies more on the dividend.

America needs a shrink in the White House!!!!

Wednesday, April 19, 2006

Below is the winning chair in the White House musical chairs staff reshuffle

(This widely circulated e-mail from a midwestern conservative activist journalist shows the depth of unhappiness in the GOP's base.)

Since taking control of Congress and the White House, Republicans have done nothing to help the men's movement, the marriage movement, and others who know that feminists and lawyers are still actively destroying our families and marriages.

In fact, the 1996 welfare reforms were the greatest assault on marriage ever enacted. Government often orders men to pay more child support than they earn, takes away their professional and driver's licenses, seizes their business assets during economic downturns, forces them to support children that aren't even theirs, and locks them up if they can't earn what some bureacrat expects them to. Feminists take advantage of fears they manufacture and misuse no-fault divorce as a wedge to break down the family and turn it over to government control. This has hurt millions of American families, kept taxes high, made a balanced budget impossible, and left everyone far worse off.

Republicans have gone out of their way to plug their ears and keep real social conservatives out big tent since 1992. In the name of "family values", they built a welfare state that has legal powers the IRS never dreamed of. They treated marriage and family no better than Democrats did. Most folks know this, and are very unhappy about it, but don't know what to do about it.

Now its your turn to tell Republicans exactly how you feel

Republicans cannot win the 2006 elections without your active participation and vote. The best way to make them listen and change their tune is for you to join the 2006 PRO-FAMILY REPUBLICAN ELECTION BOYCOTT.

Here is how you can change America now! If you do your part, we will have about 6.4 million conservatives sitting out the 2006 elections in about seven days. Republicans will have to pay serious attention to this!!"

Good evening America and to all the ships at sea

With volunteer help from Rich Farr my campaign now has an internet radio voice on and Totally amazing how far I've come on almost no money. We're gaining momentum with new folks from around the country joining my team almost every day. All this is happening because I bring a NEW MESSAGE OF HOPE.

No wonder national campaigns up till now cost hundreds of millions. The candidates have nothing new to say so they peddle themselves like soapflakes.

If I can break into the national media spotlight, I could take the White House on shoe string financing.

New Yorkers are total suckers for hidden taxes sold as social policy

This fellow risks a $50 fine. Consider he paid $2 to ride the subway but has no room for his legs. He risks a blood clot to his lungs should he squeeze his legs between the seats on a long subway ride which might be the case here because it's an hour plus on the subway from Manhattan to Coney Island.

Crap like this was a secondary reason I left New York for California 30 plus years ago. What I hated the most was alternate side of the street parking which guaranteed New Yorkers without garage space except on Sundays and holidays couldn't sleep late. If memory serves, you had to move your car to the other side of the street by 7 am or face a $100 fine. Denominated in 1970s' housing dollars that's about $2000 today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woody Allen might have developed an entirely different neurosis had he not grownup in New York's caged-hamster-running-on-a-wheel-24/7 environment.

New York parking is such a horror we joked in medical school we became physicians to qualify for M.D. license plates which provided special street parking privileges. Still remember mine: 344MD9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Japan's middle class is vanishing

Said basically the same thing in this t.v. interview done in Memphis while attending the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in March, 2006.

Revival in Japan Brings Widening of Economic Gap (NY Times today)

OSAKA, Japan — Japan's economy, after more than a decade of fitful starts, is once again growing smartly. Instead of rejoicing, however, Japan is engaged in a nationwide bout of hand-wringing over increasing signs that the new economy is destroying one of the nation's most cherished accomplishments: egalitarianism.

Today, in a country whose view of itself was once captured in the slogan, "100 million, all-middle class society," catchphrases harshly sort people into "winners" and "losers," and describe Japan as a "society of widening disparities." Major daily newspapers are running series on the growing gap between rich and poor, with such titles as "Divided Japan" and "Light and Darkness."
In the advanced industrial world today economic gains come at expense of the middle class subsidizing the profits of the money center banks and megacorporations which are the only real beneficiaries of globalization.

International law is not a suicide pact

By Amos Harel and Arnon Regular, Haaretz Correspondents, Haaretz Service and Agencies:

Qassam hit sports stadium in south, causing damage but no injuries

(My published reply)

International law reform is the answer

Mark Klein, M.D.

21st century asymmetric war cannot be won using outdated international law predicated on conflicts between nation states.Escapes me how absent the right to inflict harsh reprisals on enemy civilians supporting terrorists security can be achieved. The Nazis and Japanese imperialism would still be with us had allies not incinerated their cities with round the clock bombing raids.

If I make the White House in 2008, my #1 foreign policy-military doctrine item will be revisiting America`s international law comittments. I`ll demand modification, or if necessary withdraw America, from treaties which tie our hands to definitively crush the enemy. Otherwise we end up in "Viet Nams" like Iraq.

To show support for my position please WRITE IN my name on the Human Events presidential straw poll.

(later added the below online comment)

It is in America`s best national security interests to revisit today`s laws of war for continued relevance for the effective prosecution of 21st century symmetric war.

Israel`s problem with the Palestinians is the exemplar of what`s wrong with them. Simply irrational, and perhaps suicidal, to exempt the Palestinian population supporting terrorism from severe reprisals. Makes no sense Israel cannot destroy, or evacuate enemy areas, from which missiles are launched.

For democratic nations today`s laws of war could be suicide pacts. Israel`s friends in Washington should begin the discussion of getting America`s opinion and policy makers to see these outdated sacred cows for what they are. Getting this started would be an important policy bridge to link up with the next administration (hopefully mine!!).

Good policy enables good people do the right thing.

(Draft of next Washington Times advert.)

The majority of abortions can be prevented by making working and middle class family life emotionally fulfilling and financially feasible again so more fathers will do “the right thing’ by marrying their sweethearts.

Today’s skyrocketing housing costs, the very weak BUYING POWER of wages, divorce on demand, and the devastating financial and emotional consequences following divorce for men make marriage a very unattractive choice for men.

#1--Order banking regulators to end non-conforming mortgages to pop the housing price bubble.

#2--Order the Attorney General and Homeland Security to strictly enforce existing immigration laws. Illegal aliens drive down the wage structure and consume the much of affordable rental stock in urban, suburban and rural communities.

#3--Order the Secretary of Health and Human Services to attack the common incentives for divorce--money, revenge and getting the children-- by requiring states as a condition to receive federal family program subsidies to enact:

CHILD SUPPORT FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT mandating child support recipients file periodic reports supported by documentation showing how the money was used for the child’s direct benefit.

EQUAL PHYSICAL CUSTODY ACT to establish the rebuttable presumption of joint physical custody in a divorce action.

#4--Order the Attorney General to prosecute as a civil rights felony knowingly false accusations of spousal and child abuse resulting in incarceration by police or court order absent a full due process court trial.

Good policy enables good people to do the right thing.

U.K. coroner recommends war crimes charges for IDF soldiers
By Associated Press

A U.K. coroner said on Monday that he would recommend that the British attorney general seek legal action over the deaths of two pro-Palestinian activists killed by Israel Defense Forces fire in 2003.The statements came after a British inquest jury ruled that Tom Hurndall was unlawfully killed by an IDF soldier in the Gaza Strip. It was the second time in two weeks that a British coroner's court had ruled that a U.K. citizen shot by Israeli soldiers in 2003 was unlawfully killed. (The soldiers were cleared of charges of wrongdoing. My posted comment below.)

Reform of international law

Mark Klein, M.D.

The top foreign policy & military doctrine item in a Klein Administration will a complete reappraisal of America`s participation in international law treaties from the perspective of their continued relevance to the realities of 21st century asymmetric war.

America also faces the same kind of problems the Israeli militay has with the UK. Spain indicted several American army officers over a journalist`s death from friendly fire. The officers were cleared of wrong doing by our investigators. America and Israel are trapped in unwinnable "Viet Nam" scenarios because they cannot under current international law inflict intention harm on hostile civilian populations.

The Nazis and the Japanese imperialists would still be with us had not America and the allies incinerated their cities and industrial infrastucture.

International law is not a suicide pact.

Daylight saving time damages the American family

(Next week's Washington Times advert.)

1- Getting the children to bed earlier gives
moms and dads more time alone together in the evening.
2- Earlier sunsets encourage people not to work so hard.
More likely moms and dads will get home earlier to
prepare healthier meals the family can share together.
3- Getting home from work earlier removes some of the pressures and opportunities resulting in infidelity which now afflicts almost half of married men and woman.
4- Less likely the body’s biological clock will be disrupted. Well rested adults and children are physically and emotionally healthier.
5- For most of the year school children won’t stand in darkness often alone
on dangerous country roads and city streets waiting for the school bus.

America needs a grownup in the White House.

Like Lincoln preserving the Union, and FDR overcoming the Great Depression, the central theme of my administration will be restoring stable, affordable middle class family life.

To have strong families we need family friendly federal policies, fiscal discipline, a realistic foreign policy, and a military doctrine to fight to win instead of repeatedly getting bogged down and financially bled white in “Viet Nam” war scenarios like Iraq.

The first key the success is I will be a strong president who will demand the federal bureaucracy fully support my program.

The second key to success is whenever possible to use existing law and regulation to effectuate my policies.

The third key to success is setting priorities. An administration that tries to be all things to all people ends up doing little or nothing for everyone.

The fourth key will be the FAMILY IMPACT STATEMENT to accompany an adminstration request for new legislation, or a federal program seeking approval for new or modified rules and regulations.

Creating stable, happy families requires affordable housing. Hence I will do the following using existing law and regulation.

1. End the housing price inflation by ordering the end of non-conforming mortgages which pump too much money into the property market to chase a naturally scarce commodity.

2. Seal the borders to illegal immigrants and institute an aggressive removal policy. Illegal immigrants are a major factor in today’s scarcity of affordable rental particularly at the lower end of the housing market.

1. Impose financially meaningful penalties on employers who knowingly hire illegal workers.

2. Withdraw, or modify trade treaties which export jobs overseas.

3. Withdraw or modify trade treaties which create persistently adverse financial consequences for the United States.

1. Order as a condition for states to receive federal subsidies for family programs child support recipients shall be designated fiduciaries required to file reports supported by documentation showing how the money was used for the child’s direct benefit.

2. Order as a condition for states to receive federal subsidies for family programs they must enact a rebuttal presumption of joint physical custody in a divorce action.

3. I shall order the Attorney General vigorously prosecute as a federal civil rights felony anyone making a knowingly false domestic violence allegation resulting in incarceration of the alleged abuser.

By nature I’m a frugal person who dislikes debt, saves regularly, and lives within my means.

I will bring those same attributes to running the federal government.

The voters can take to bank my promise the budget deficit will be slashed and unnecessary spending eliminated whenever I detect it.

Our foreign policy is so dated, stale, unimaginative, and intellectually bankrupt it endangers our national security and undermines the economy.

Here are a Klein administration’s foreign policy priorities:

1- Iraq: The war is lost and we’re headed into an intractable “Viet Nam” scenario with no way out under current policy. I will withdraw
our forces very quickly. Iraq’s already fallen into a civil war which
will inevitably lead to the breakup of the country into Kurdish,
Sunni and Shiite states. Our presence prolongs the conflict.

2. Globalization has proven an economic and social catastrophe

3. I will end America’s “neoconservative” foreign policy of imposing
democracy at the point of a gun. Our notions of democracy cannot be
imposed willy-nilly on countries not ready for it, or in which to preserve a family-clan society the society doesn‘t want it.

4. I will open diplomatic relations without prior conditions with Cuba, Iran and North Korea. As in everyday life, problems can’t be solved unless people talk with other.

I will institute a new military doctrine to fight to win even if that requires in infliction of mass civilian casualties and property damage. Otherwise, we end up in “Viet Nams” like Iraq bled white fighting local insurgencies.

To do that I will demand revision, and if necessary withdraw the United States, from international law agreements no longer appropriate to effective fight 21st century asymmetric wars.

War with Iran to distract the folks from Bush's drubbing over the immigration bill?

One day after Bush's resounding defeat in the senate over the immigration bill the news is filled with saber rattling stories about Iran. Below my posting in today's Haaretz.

Simply insane to attack Iran

Mark Klein, M.D.

America`s foreign policy is utterly bankrupt. We`ve become addicted to hopeless "Viet Nam" types wars like Iraq. Lucky for us South Vietnam capitulated. Otherwise, we`d still be there.

Tell me about "regime change" (as a goal in Iran). In Viet Nam we played musicial chairs rotating in and then out Saigon governments we thought could win "hearts and minds". We`re doing the same thing now in Iraq with same disasterous results.

Iran`s in a dither because Iraq is crumbling. They fear an expansionist, resurgent Sunni Iraq will emerge out of the ashes of the catastrophe we created. Wouldn`t surprise me to see Saddam return to power in an independent Sunni state when the fictional Iraqi state we`re trying to cobble together fails.

What on earth to they teach in the history and polical science departments at Yale? Attending Yale should be an automatic disqualification for the White House!

The middle class is fed up with paying the price for illegal immigration

(This week's Washington Times advertisement.)

From the newswire today:

WASHINGTON, April 7 — A carefully constructed compromise on immigration ran into a roadblock in the Senate today as Democrats fended off conservative Republican efforts to amend the agreement and an effort to cut off debate on elements of the plan failed by a lopsided vote..."Politics (what the voters want!!!!) got ahead of policy (what the insiders want!!!) on this," lamented Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

PARIS April 7- France's ruling conservatives were set on Friday to outline possible steps to end a confrontation over a youth labor law that has sparked calls for Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin to step down. Some senior conservatives have mooted suspending the "easy hire, easy fire" contract for up to six months to give time to find an alternative. But unions, bolstered by mass street protests, are still insisting it be withdrawn outright.

Before any tinkering the system past strict enforcement of current law, and improvement border security, I will seek an IMMIGRATION COMMUNITY IMPACT LAW which will

1-Determine immigration levels based upon its impact on community resources so property taxpayers don't end up paying the freight for newcomers. Immigration is a LOCAL issue.

2- For most immigrants to qualify they will have to agree to live in a particular community for a fixed period of time. Communities seeking immigrants would apply to the government for consideration. Every effort would be made to encourage a local vote by residents to approve the plan.

We can be real smart when we put our mind to it

NY Times today:
WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Only two years ago, Canadian online pharmacies were an emerging David thrashing at the multinational pharmaceutical Goliath, strengthened by soaring sales in the United States that ignited a lasting debate over high medicine prices. Now, just as quickly as it rose, the industry has been swamped by problems that have cut into sales and forced many of the smaller online pharmacies out of business.
We killed more than 2 birds with one stone with the Part D Medicare drug program. In addition to providing affordable drugs to seniors we encourage doctors to use more generic drugs, strengthened our pharmaceutical industry, and enhanced consumer safety by discouraging the purchase of potentially dangerous imported drugs.

Part D is a real bargain for seniors. Excellent coverage is available for about $30 per month. Copays are very modest for the most commonly used generics seniors use, e.g. heart medicines, etc.

Seniors who purchase a good Part B Medicare supplement and Part D and are sensible about diet, excercise, following doctors' orders and getting regular checkups have excellent chances to live extended, enjoyable lives.

We'll have to do more to protect women and children

(NY Times photo--prostitutes attending an income tax preparation seminar)

An Old Profession That's New to Doing Taxes

Published: April 5, 2006

...(L)ast Thursday night at an unusual tax workshop (was) held at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center on West 13th Street. As at other tax workshops being held these days leading up to the mid-April filing deadline, there were workers on hand to explain things like the earned-income-tax credit. And yes, there were computers providing information about children as deductions...The event was organized by a group called Prostitutes of New York, a support and advocacy group, and by a sex industry magazine called Spread...Members of the group helped Ms. Patterson and other sex workers — including pornography actors, strippers, nude models, peep show performers, phone sex workers and madams — who want to begin filing tax returns...most of the working-girl clichés — either the glamorized glitz of the high-priced call girl or the depraved danger of the strung-out street walker — applied to only a minority of prostitutes...(one woman said) "Most of them are supporting children or paying rent and college loans, things like that...A lot of prostitutes are making just enough to get by and can qualify for certain tax credits..."
With the collapse of marriage the income of prostitutes collapsed as well as more and more women flood the profession to earn a living. Very likely getting the earned income tax credit check rather than civic virtue is what's behind their sudden interest in filing tax returns.

This story follows on the heels of a report from Germany last week many prostitutes are retraining as nurses aides as earning from sex work dramatically fell in response to intense competition.

Hence I'm not surprised by the appearance of stories about polygamy.

Feminism will join Prohibition in the ash heap social experiments gone totally awry.

Polygamy's going mainstream.

(Next Washington Times advert.)

From today's Jerusalem Post:

Why not Mr. and Mrs. - & Mrs... & Mrs...?

Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer recently called attention to how polygamy had made its way back into the news: "Under the headline 'Polygamists, Unite!' Newsweek informs us of 'polygamy activists emerging in the wake of the gay-marriage movement.' Says one evangelical Christian big lover: 'Polygamy rights is the next civil-rights battle'...But let's be honest. Man is not really a monogamous creature. If he were, you wouldn't have so many men betraying their wives. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but in general, man requires variety and woman requires security. And security for many women means knowing that you are not alone, that you're part of the tribe...
Feminism so totally devalued women as stable relationship partners too many men nowadays won't marry. Nevertheless very hard to imagine men going for polygamy when women are so sexually available for little cost or effort.

Government can't even set the right time of day

"When the children are asleep and lights are low..." (from the musical "Oklahoma")

Under a recent bill daylight savings time will go to November 30 from October 31 to conserve fuel.

But at what price? In large swatches of the nation children will stand in darkness, often alone, on dangerous city streets and country roads awaiting the school bus. Today's very busy working moms and dads will have even less private time for each other now because children will stay up later.

In a real emergency extended daylight savings time can be critical. In Israel's War for Independence in 1948 the country went to double daylight savings time to conserve its tiny, precious fuel supply.

Simply insane to increase the pressures on today's beleaguered American family for the sake of shaving a few pennies off the national energy bill.

Are there any grownups living INSIDE the Beltway?
