DRAFT TEXT OF MY NEXT WASHINGTON TIMES ADVERT

A WINNING PLATFORM TO TAKE THE
WHITE HOUSE IN 2008

The vast majority of 2008 American voters will want new policies to stabilize marriage, and to make middle class family more affordable. We desperately need a new political center because the leadership elites of the major parties behave as if they despise middle class family life, and care nothing for our children’s futures.

Improving marital stability

Marriage is usually life’s bumpiest road. Since children do better in all respects growing up in intact families, it’s critical to encourage couples to stay together by reducing the most common incentives for divorce--money, revenge, and getting custody of the children--with an

1. Equal Custody Act: For states to receive federal subsidies for family programs they must mandate a rebuttal presumption of joint physical custody in divorce.

2. Child Support Financial Responsibility Act: For states to receive federal subsidies for family programs those receiving child support must file periodic reports with supporting documentation showing how the money was used for the direct benefit of the child.

MAKING MIDDLE CLASS FAMILY LIFE MORE AFFORDABLE

Because housing costs are usually the greatest financial burden families’ face, improved affordability will enable parents to work fewer hours. Marriages are more stable when partners spend more time with each other and with the children. We’d see dramatic decline in the obesity driven diabetes epidemic when moms and dads have more time to prepare home cooked meals for the family.

1. End non-conforming mortgages:

Funny money mortgages pump too much money into the housing market driving up prices to unreasonable levels. There is no excuse for the smallest detached homes in popular metro regions to usually cost over $500,000 .

The solution simply requires the federal agencies which regulate lenders to require at least a 20% down payment and a loan maximum no greater than 4 times the borrower’s gross income.

2. Seal our borders to illegal aliens:

Tens of millions of illegal aliens have to live somewhere. They’ve consumed what was once the affordable rental stock.

Keeping illegal aliens out will restore reasonable wages for America’s blue collar workforce most of whom can’t earn enough to support a family when competing with people willing to work off the books for peanuts.
