What's good for the goose is good for the gander

Iranian President Ahmadinejad's threats against Israel are the only supposedly "safe" way he can react to the drumbeat of American diplomatic pressure, and implied use of force, about Iran's nuclear ambitions. Our military threats are a joke because our forces are so depleted there's no way could sustain a conflict with a country the size of Iran. We may be paper tigers but Iran's not as evidenced by its against all odds "Battle of Britain" stubborn defense against Iraq's invasion in the 1980s.

Because Israel and Iran possess long range ballistic missiles our bellicose talk raises the risk of accidental war.

We'd be much better off reestablishing diplomatic ties with Iran. When we really ran the world, doing the angry wife shtick by making hubbie sleep on couch until he capitulated made some sense. Certainly doesn't any more in a world where access to WMDs is easy. Irony here is Iran's likely already has nuclear weapons but thinks it diplomatically prudent to remain mum.
