New Washington Times advert appearing 10/10/05 (text version)

A FOREIGN POLICY “NEW DEAL” FOR THE ISLAMIC WORLD WILL END THE WAR ON TERROR AND HELP RESTORE TODAY’S TATTERED AMERICAN FAMILY

We're perpetually at sword's point with the Islamic world because we're trying to shove our version of feminism down their throats. Given our 50% plus divorce rate, very low marriage formations, and the majority of children now born out of wedlock, no wonder feminism's a "No Sale" in the Islamic world.

The Israeli-Arab conflict is a red herring. Israel’s earned her place in the sun. With peace she’d be a good neighbor, and an engine for sustained regional economic growth. The problem would resolve in a heartbeat if we genuinely respected Muslim family and social customs.
Because Israel honors and respects Islamic traditions there's no terrorism from its million plus Arab citizens.

Jewish, and an ardent Zionist, I’ve followed the Israeli press closely for many decades. Can't recall a single instance in which the government, absent an intervening military or security issue, interfered in a purely internal Muslim family matter.

The War on Terror is largely the result of our fundamental disrespect for Islamic culture. We’re not facing massed armies, but highly motivated, committed quite ordinary people fearful with good reason of American political imperialism.

We just dead wrong to think one political size fits all.

There is much we can learn from Islam. It is an inward looking, family and community oriented society. Traditional Islamic culture promotes the same values as the traditional Jewish and Christian religious ideals from which it sprung.

The Republican family values platform would really work were we to adapt Islamic, traditional Jewish and Christian family law practices to our secular Constitutional structure.
We should encourage troubled couples to agreed to binding arbitration in their respective religious courts before seeking a civil divorce. Religious courts lost their moral authority by becoming little more than rubber stamps for civil divorce.

Today’s world is just to too small, and too inherently dangerous given just about any Tom, Dick or Harry can cook up a WMD in the basement, not to respect others’ way of life.
