Told some folks at the St. Mary's meeting were I Al Quaida I'd skip 9-11s to do low grade daily terror attacks against soft civilian targets. I said the tactics of Iraqi insurgents are to the War on Terror as the Spanish Civil War was to formation of German's WWII military doctrine.

I really believe we are where the Soviet Union was in 1980. Bogged down in a hopeless war against Islamic militants overseas, and incapable of addressing severe economic and social problems at home, ten years later the system suddenly imploded.

For starters we need to walk away from laws of war and rules of engagement predicated on political assumptions which simply no longer exist. My job as a psychiatrist is to help people see the reason they're emotionally troubled is they are so consumed by past psychological conflicts they can't effectively deal with the here and now.

To survive we must ask impertinent questions about sacred cows. Harmless sacred cows can be emotionally satisfying. Those infected with political hoof and mouth disease should be slaughtered immediately and interred covered in lime in a deep pit.
