Preventing Type II diabetes

(My posting on the ifeminist board www.ifeminists.com for the discussion "Women today working for nothing".)

Post subject: Women today working for nothing.

Mr. X's endorsement of excercise once one has Type II diabetes is correct. I applaud his comments and wish him well.

But for the prevention of Type II diabetes colorie intake regulation is the critical factor.

I recommend EVERY overweight adult in addition to consulting their doctor regularly check blood sugar at least weekly with home glucose test monitors, e.g. Free Style. Very slick virtually painless system.

Regular testing is the best way to head off diabetes. The normal blood sugar upper limit 105-110 depending on test equipment. Diabetes is 126 and above. Between normal and 126 is labeled "impaired glucose metabolism". Diet and excerise here possibly might reverse the process. Key is not to "slip" into diabetes during the impaired glucose window period.

The Free Style and comparable systems are sold over the counter. Because the real money for the manufactuers is in selling the test strips, the meters usually come with substantial rebate coupons.

THIS IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR VISTING YOUR DOCTOR REGULARLY AND SCRUPULOUSLY FOLLOWING HIS OR HER ADVICE.
